SCHOOL YEAR 2013-2014

Here we are, a new school year.  We have lots of learning and fun to accomplish this year. I am teacher, and I have a multi-age class of fun students.  Please join us weekly for updates on our learning, exploring and activities. 

SPRING UPDATE

Some of our Jack and Annie's went to Florida.  These two traveled to Tampa.  Here they are playing with teacher's niece.  

Now they are visiting the park and river.  

Look who came to investigate while they were getting their picture taken.  Don't worry, this alligator was only about 4' long.  

These two traveled to the Sarasota area.  Here they are at the pool!

Now they are posing at the "beach".  They told us it was sunny, and warm all week!

We read the next Magic Tree-house Book called Saber-tooth at Sunset.  We all made owl masks.  Aren't they awesome!?

We are making new room decorations for Spring.  Here Logan is working on his...a butterfly made from his foot and hands!

Anthony is sewing a flower to hang up.  

Here Cameron is hanging up his flower on his chair.  Now we are ready for Spring.  

Afternoon on the Amazon!

This is the new Magic Treehouse book we are reading.  In the book Jack and Annie learn about Army Ants.  So, teacher had us pretend we were army ants.  (Just so you know, army ants do NOT move for anything!  If something is in their way, they either eat it, chew through it, or go over it!).  We used the table as a rock!

Here we are, the Army ants!  We have just marched around the "forest" and have come to a rock!

Army Ants Logan B. and Marcella are the leaders, they are crossing over the rock!

Next in line are ants Kaylee and Cameron.  Don't they look fierce?

Ants Chad and Trent are now crossing over the rock...look how they mean business!

Here are ants Thomas and Blake B.  Boy they were angry having something in their path!  

Bringing up the tail end, are Ants Autumn and Dakotah.  Look how Dakotah feels his way across the rock!

We are also creating our own miniature rain forest.  Wait for pictures.  

Hi my name is Blake K.  I am in 2nd grade.  I am 8 yrs. old.  This is my favorite shirt that I have on.  I have a younger brother named Logan K.  He is in my class too, but you will meet him by himself!  

Here I am with my friend Logan B.  We like putting together puzzles when we get our work finished.  

Christmas Writing Fun!

For Christmas I got this pencil from my Teacher.  I use it every day.  The pencil is black, white and pink!

For Christmas I got several Monster trucks.  I got them from my grandma and my neighbors.  I made a ramp and had races with them.  I play with them all the time and I like to crash them into walls and watch them bounce back.  It is a lot of fun.  From Cameron

For Christmas I got a socket set.  I got it from my cousin Samantha.  I will get to use the sockets while helping my dad work on the truck.  I also use them outside on my lawn mower.  I really like them.  From Thomas

For Christmas I got two pet shops.  I got these from my aunt and uncle.  I have lots of fun playing with them.  I also got three stuffed animals.  I like all my new toys.  From Kaylee

READING Update!

We loved this book.  We highly recommend this book, and series, to everyone.  Teacher is reading them to us, and we do lots us fun activities on each book.  In this book, Jack and Annie find a gold medallion with the letter "M" on it!

 This story was fun!  We learned about medieval times!Jack and Annie found a leather bookmark with the letter "M" on it.  We are so curious to find out what the "M" stands for!

This has been our favorite book so far.  We all took the Accelerated Reader test and passed with 80%, 90%, or 100%!  WOO-HOO!  Some of the words we learned during this story were:

PYRAMID: Triangle building made of bricks, that housed the dead. 

SARCOPHAGUS: Coffin for a mummy

MUMMY:Dead person who was salted, oiled, dried and wrapped in cloth

SCEPTER:Wand like stick, with a dog head on top.

TOMB: Place where the mummy& sarcophagus was placed. 

HIEROGLYPH: Ancient Egyptian writing using pictures.  

(We learned how to write our name in hieroglyphs). 

Jack and Annie found the letter"M" on the floor of the tree house when they returned from Egypt.  

The book we are reading now is called: "Pirates Past Noon".  Jack and Annie go to an Island where some pirate treasure is.    

So, today we had beach day!  SO fun.  We will post pictures of our day!  

Snack fun!

Here are the students who were in school today.  (Thomas and Autumn were here too, but they were at gym).  As you can see, half our friends are absent.  So, teacher let us watch a movie during our snack.  Then we played fun learning games, like the card game War.  

We are hoping for some much wanted snow.  The weatherman says a storm is heading our way...almost enough to close our school for the day!
